FIELD OF LIGHT BY BRUCE MUNRO
Sensorio’s largest and first exhibit, Field of Light features 100,000 stemmed spheres that glow like jewel-toned flowers spread across the hillsides. Entirely powered by 92 solar panels, the fiber optic stems shift in color and move slightly in the breeze as guests walk winding paths among them. Field of Light first opened in 2019 and was expanded in 2022. Artist Bruce Munro has dazzled audiences worldwide with similar dreamlike installations, with Sensorio’s being the largest by far. His works are inspired by his continuous study of natural light and his curiosity for shared human experiences, and his goal is always to intentionally create an emotional response for the viewer.
LIGHT TOWERS BY BRUCE MUNRO
Featuring 69 towers composed of more than 17,000 wine bottles, illuminated with glowing optic fibers whose colors evolve to an ethereal musical score, Light Towers pays tribute to the 200+ wineries and vineyards that blanket Paso Robles’ beautiful rolling hills. The exhibit opened in 2021. Each tower holds around more than 200 bottles and stands taller than a person, creating a forest-like effect for those strolling within. The colors of the lights shift in time with a score that combines the music of many nations for a worldly, transportive effect.
GONE FISHING BY BRUCE MUNRO
Opened in 2023, Gone Fishing offers a playful interpretation of an introspective pastime. Featuring 30 semi-circular arrays each with 25 multicolored fishing rods, Gone Fishing represents artist Bruce Munro’s fascination with the contemplative act of standing by a stream. Each bloom, threaded with fiber optics, gently illuminates the surrounding hills. “To me, fishing has always conjured up the notion of removing oneself from the here and now to a place of peace and reflection,” Munro says.
FIREFLIES BY BRUCE MUNRO
Fireflies is made up of nearly 10,000 points of white light that float and sway organically on optical fibers in the breeze. Artist Bruce Munro was inspired to create this whimsical exhibit by two of his favorite books, Kim by Rudyard Kipling and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. “It is my belief that light is a wonderful medium to connect mind, body and soul with the natural environment,” Munro said when the exhibit opened in 2023. “I hope this installation instills a sense of wonder and surprise to those that see it.”
